Presenting the Art and Geometry of Stickweaving™ by Bradford Hansen-Smith
Stickweaving™ is a method of weaving sticks into a spherical transformational system. The individually woven joints when joined together form a variety of geometric spatial nets that can be almost fabric-like. This is most likely a very old weaving pattern that got lost somewhere. Unlike the 2-D/3-D geometry of traditional warp and weft weaving this method revels a spherical arrangement of semi-rigid linear elements that opens star-like and collapses into a linear bundle. The weaving is done in sets using odd numbers of sticks in parallel, three being primary. Each set of three sticks is woven perpendicular through another set and bound at each end slightly bowing each stick. Each set of sticks can move through the central weave of the system changing the configuration.
